376 pages + 12 plates, format approx. 15 x 22 cm, hardcover with wrapper, partially faded wrapper, illustrated catalog of Roman coins with valuations, fourth edition of the price guide, containing a representative list of virtually all coins of the Roman Empire from its humble beginnings in the 3rd century B.C., through its glory days as an Empire, to its decline and eventual replacement in the 5th century A.D. by the Byzantine Empire. The book includes biographies of the emperors, maps and graphics. It explains the basic elements of minting, including such things as the denomination system, the meaning of symbols on coins, and the designations of mints and mint marks. The new edition also includes a revised section on the minting of the Republic and the Empire and new references to imperial coins from the period 337-364 ne. A valuable reference tool of Roman minting for both beginners and experienced collectors.
