Bendix, Jan – SIEG’s Coin Catalog of the Nordic Countries: Denmark, Schleswig, Nordborg, Glücksborg, Plön, Gottorp, the Danish West Indies, Trankebar, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway: Private Coins from the Faroe Islands, Greenland, the Danish West Indies, and Christiania, Frederikssund 2011, 42nd edition, ISBN 8792287151
598 pages + advertisements, 15 x 21 cm, softcover, richly illustrated catalog with valuations for several conditions. A detailed catalog of coins from Nordic countries such as: Denmark (since 1533, broken down by monarch, coins of the Prison Service 1949–1973, and the Danish West Indies 1740–1913), the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Additionally, the catalog contains information regarding counterfeits of these coins. The principles for assessing the condition of coins are described and presented in a simple, illustrative manner. The causes of irregularities and peculiarities (minting errors) are presented and described, as well as various types of defects and irregularities arising during the minting process (e.g., cracks in the blank or die, worn dies, weak striking, or double striking) that occur during coin production. The peculiarities and defects of the dies themselves are also described—die fractures, corrected dies, spelling errors, or individual owner’s marks. All of this is illustrated with sample photographs of coins.
